Paul Young BSc MSc MICFor CEnv
Paul is the Principal Ecologist and Director responsible for all aspects of management of HED Ltd.
He has a wide range of experience in managing and delivering projects for clients in the public and private sector. On a day-to-day basis he manages a small team of ecologists for the consultancy but enjoys the variety that comes with undertaking site surveys and ECoW roles himself.
Paul has provided full time ECoW on a wide range of construction projects (for SSE and ABB/BB Consortium), underground cable routes, windfarms and hydro-schemes.
He has a very practical understanding of the construction industry, particularly with regards to major utility projects, road and rail as well as commercial developments and is client focused. As a chartered professional he aims to make sure the interests of his clients are protected whilst ensuring compliance with industry and environmental good practice. Paul is a Licensed Bat worker and holds a Scotland wide Badger licence from NatureScot.
He has strong communication and interpersonal skills and is able to work as part of a small team to deliver projects on time and in budget. He has good working relationships with the key licensing agencies in the north including SEPA, NatureScot and Marine Scotland.
Imogen Young BSc ACIEEM
Imogen is an experienced ecologist who has been working in the environmental field for over 30 years. Her career prior to joining HED Ltd in 2008 included professional roles as a Countryside Ranger, Field Studies and Outdoor Instructor and Chartered Science teacher. In these posts she has acquired a high degree of professionalism.
She is a very effective communicator and has the ability to get along with everyone in the team. Her teaching and environmental interpretation background has proved invaluable in this aspect. Imogen was one of the keynote speakers at the ICW (Institute of Collaborative Working ) at the Crystal in London in July 2017.
Since joining HED Ltd in 2008, Imogen has been a key team member of the company. She has headed up projects and ensured they have been delivered on time and in budget.
Imogen is a very able ecologist and has developed a range of specialist skills including Electrofishing, protected species surveys and provision of ECoW services. She is also a Schedule 1 Bird License holder.
Imogen is client focussed and ensures compliance with legislative constraints and industry good practice on sites.
Michael Pedder BSc
Michael joined HED Ltd. in early 2021, previously working in an environmental consultancy for 9 years. In that time, he became familiar with survey methods, writing technical reports and working alongside clients to meet their specific needs throughout the Highlands. He has strong understanding of the aquaculture industry, marine environments, and terrestrial ecology.
He has worked as an EnvCow (Environmental Clerk of Works) on a number of development sites and undertaken protected species surveys for a range of clients. He has delivered ecological and environmental toolbox talks to site personnel, local schools and given tutorials to industry professionals.
Michael is client focused and brings strong communication and problem solving skills to sites ensuring issues are identified and resolved to deliver projects successfully.
Isla MacLeod BSc MSc
Isla has been working with HED Ltd on various projects since 2015. Having grown up on the Black Isle and spent the majority of her time in the outdoors from a young age, Isla possesses a sound knowledge of Highland flora and fauna and a passion for ecology.
Isla is experienced in both working on and co-ordinating bat surveys, as well as undertaking surveys for other European Protected Species such as otter, badger, and water vole. She has also worked as EnvCoW on multiple renewable energy developments throughout the Highlands, as well as peat probing and pre-commencement surveys ahead of the construction phase of large and small scale projects.
An excellent communicator, Isla has also taken part in STEM talks for schools and delivered TBTs to site personnel.
Sally Louise Fraser, Operations Manager
SLF joined HED Ltd in Autumn 2020 and in her role as operations manager she works hard to make sure our team are in the right place at the right time with the right equipment to get the job done.
Her responsibilities include, invoicing, program planning, procedures and policies and HR to name just a few.
Supporting staff in the field is of great interest to SLF due to her lifelong enthusiasm for the great outdoors. Living in the highlands has given her ample opportunity to experience local wildlife up close.
Throughout her career, SLF has held operational roles at several companies (I know, she doesn’t look old enough!) from 2 person start-ups to large engineering companies, and she’s smashing it.
Sally has strong communication and organisational skills and brings a wealth of experience to the company.
